How to Become a Plus-Sized Model
Becoming a plus-size model may require a little extra height and an ideal size range, but you'll also need drive and a tough skin to make it in the industry. If you've got what it takes and you're interested in plus-size modeling, review the basics to get started and get your portfolio out there.

Create Your Portfolio

When you're first breaking into the industry, you won’t need a full portfolio to begin making inquiries. Instead, concentrate on photographs that show your natural beauty and that aren’t particularly staged or posed. Aim for at least one high-quality face shot and a full-body shot in simple, flattering attire.


•Note: If you have poor-quality photographs, it's advised to arrive at the agency without photographs. If you are a beginning model and show potential, many agencies will understand.

Contact Agencies

You'll need to get in touch with modeling agencies to jumpstart your professional career, but educate yourself about the "right" agencies. Check out potential agencies' reputations with other professionals in the industry, and never pay fees to apply or sign onto an agency.

Call the top three agencies in your area and schedule appointments to meet. On the day of your appointment, wear comfortable, semi-casual clothing that fit well. Consider wearing a pair of kitten heels to add a little extra height without being overly obvious.

Attend an Open Call

Open calls can be an overwhelming experience, particularly if you find yourself in a large group of hopefuls.

•Some agencies may have you fill out an extensive form before speaking with you. You will need to identify your contact information, interests, measurements, and experience. You may also be measured by the modeling agency representative.
•Smile, and don't let any criticism get to you. As you attend more casting calls, you could hear comments on your headshots or figure. Simply say thank you and move on.
•Know that if you do get signed, you'll be expected to create a portfolio, as well as comp/zed cards. While this is a substantial cards, do not pay an agency to be on their website, to be represented, or to attend their school.

Plus Size Modeling Requirements

While you may need to fit into a certain size to become a plus model, that's not all. Plus models are generally 5'8" to 6' in height, and wear a size 10 and up.

Note: Fit models may be required in larger sizes or shorter heights than standard plus-size modeling, and it’s worth inquiring when you call agencies.

The workout

Ok I have been working out now for a year( not eating correctly) but working out nonetheless and doing it hard. I can see my body changing but I was not dropping the pounds. Frustrated I decided to go back to WW and since I returned I have been going up and down and I want to go DOWN! Last week I started working with a trainer and OMG I think that she is trying to kill me. Today we did a 5 mile walk that included 64 stairs and when I tell you that I was out of it, I was out of but I will not not stop.

When we finished she told me that I had more heart than some of her smaller more fit clients. She also left me with this, your body is your masterpiece only you have the power to design it.

Beautiful Jamaica

As most of you know by now, I travel for my job alot. I see some of the most beautiful people inside and out( dealing with plus size clothing, models, all things plus size) and I am so grateful. Well this last week I went to Montego Bay, Jamaica. AHHHHHH Jamaica! Good food, good music, history of my people and BEAAAAUTIFUL MEN! I have so much to tell I don't even know where to start. We went to this beautiful island to do a plus size photo shoot and to met with a very prominate business man who owns a marketing firm there so I did do some business, but after those 3 days it was all pleasure.

My experience there is on that I will not soon forget.I met a wonderful man there by the name of Chadwick, Chad for short. This Jamaican born man was 6'3 Carmel melt in your mouth color, built and was a total gentleman. We danced til 4 sometimes 5am on the hip strip, I brought Jerk chicken off the side of the road from a local, I visited Bob Marley's final resting place. I climbed Dunn's Waterfall which last year before committing to get in shape and take care of my body, I could have never done. Sat in the ocean, went out in a glass bottom boat to look at the white sea at sea.

This man (all the man that I encountered) call you a Queen and treat you like one. I learned that I am a "Fatty Boom-Boom sweet sugar dumpling, that dresses trash" translation I am a big bodied beautiful woman who is fly, I like that.

On the flip side of things I saw the ruins the save children with no shoes, no homes little girls the age of my son walking the street at 9pm trying to sell you something, Mother nowhere to be found. I saw the locals craving and selling items on the street for what us Americans would call pennies and I also found out if you have an average job you make $100.00 us dollars a week,most of us make that a day or more. Needless to say, my heart broke and I gave away as much as I could, I know that I live consciously but this took me to a whole different level. Make sure to give thanks for all that you have because tomorrow could be a very different day.

Ok now back to the good stuff, Chad and I have vowed to keep in touch with each other( he has called alot) and he has offered to teach me all he knows about Jamaica and I to him all about America.

You know sometimes you look for things but you never know where you may find them. God always has a plan.

New Day

I am no longer gonna say it's a New Year, so it is time for new things, I am going to make a promise to myself to be happy, to do the things that I enjoy. Not worrying about what other people think because have you notice that when you are trying to make everybody else happy your are not? But when you are happy everything around you appears great!

Live your life in the way that the spirits would be proud, live your life like it is golden! Enjoy yourself, be happy!
